אחד מתפקידיה השונים של העובדת הסוציאלית היא שמירה על כבודם ופרטיותם של המטופלים במוסדות השיקום השונים. העובדת הסוציאלית תדאג לרווחתו של המטופל ותבטיח שמירה על זכויותיו, כבודו ופרטיותו מצד כל האנשים שבאים איתו במגע, הן על-ידי הצוות המטפל, והן על-ידי מטופלים אחרים ואף בני משפחה. העובדת הסוציאלית תוודא את נוחיותו של המטופל בבית האבות ותדאג ליצירת מרחב פרטי ובו ימצאו חפציו האישיים של המטופל, וכן תדאג שלמטופל תינתן בחירה חופשית עד כמה שניתן בבחירת בגדיו, את מזונו ואת השתתפותו בפעילויות השונות המוצעות בבתי אבות.
